JULY 2016 at the SALON

The Trouble with Poets
presented by Tom Weber

Filmmaker Tom Weber ("Troubadour Blues") made this hour-long documentary about the poetry scene in his hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania, a small post-industrial city with a wealth of creative talent. The focus of the film is Poets Hall, a neighborhood arts center on the city's east side that hosts weekly open mic nights and performances by local and traveling poets. Erie County boasts a funded Poet Laureate initiative that is now in its sixth year. This documentary and other independent films like it are being broadcast by public
television station WQLN in the interest of promoting local arts and culture in the economically challenged region. Two of the featured poets -- Abdullah "Bigg Wash" Washington and Kim Noyes -- will perform live at the screening along with Pittsburgh poets Don Wentworth and Bob Ziller.
