MAY 2016 at the SALON

An Open Discussion

Documentaries are often calls to action.   They reveal a problem or an injustice, or bring to light the good work of others in hopes of inspiring change.  But can a film really have such an effect on its audience, and on the world at large?  If so, how does that happen?  If not, then what’s the point of making it?

This month, two filmmakers will share their work and experience making powerful documentaries that aim to go beyond entertainment.  This will be the basis for a discussion about the making, viewing and responding to message-driven films.  The filmmakers are:
  • Billy Jackson  (Enough is Enough: The Death of Jonny Gammage, Wendell Freeland: The Quiet Soldier)
  • Kirsi Jansa  (Gas Rush Stories, Sustainability Pioneers)
