JUNE 2012 at the SALON

The Interview
A filmmaker asks a question and records the answer:  we have an interview.  But what value is that piece of footage?  Can we trust that a person will answer truthfully?  Do the artificial circumstances of the shoot hopelessly taint the results?

This month’s Salon is a video potluck.  Think back to a memorable interview that you’ve seen or that you’ve shot.  Maybe it was funny, touching, strange, or just visually interesting.  Maybe the interviewer’s presence was felt in a surprising way.  Bring the clip in*.  We’ll watch them all and discuss this fascinating and flawed form that is one of the foundations of the modern documentary.

* We can show almost anything:  Blu-Ray, DVD, VHS, miniDV, DVCAM, as well as web-based video (YouTube. Vimeo, Netflix, HuluPlus, etc.) and 16mm film.
WEB:  Best thing is to email the URL to docsalonpittsburgh@comcast.net.
TAPE: Cue up tapes.
DISC:  Bring cue times and chapters.
