In 1979, famed director William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist) ignited a firestorm with his new film Cruising... before shooting of the film was even complete. His rendition of the murder of a gay man in the NYC leather culture mirrors the real-life killing of journalist Addison Verrill, blurring the boundary between fact and fiction, and stirring protests among the gay community.
Mineshaft: The Cruising Murders documents the controversy around the thriller starring Al Pacino, and provides chills itself as it investigates Friedkin and the actual murderer.
