FEBRUARY 2026 at the SALON

OSCAR TIME

February means, among other things, that the Best Documentary Short Film Academy Award candidates have arrived.  The lineup:

Perfectly a Strangeness is a cinematic poem, following three donkeys as they explore an abandoned astronomical observatory in the Chile’s Atacama Desert.

The Devil is Busy follows Tracii the head of security at a women’s healthcare clinic in Atlanta navigates the daily tensions of protesters and shifting legal restrictions.

Children No More:  Were and Are Gone documents the silent protest movement in Tel Aviv where activists hold vigils for children killed in the Gaza conflict.

Armed Only with a Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud is about the award-winning video journalist, killed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine in 2022. Directed by his brother, Craig Renaud.

All the Empty Rooms is about journalist Steve Hartman and photographer Lou Bopp’s seven-year project to memorialize the untouched bedrooms of children killed in school shootings.

As ever, we'll meet at the theater and head to Cafe Milano afterward to talk favorites and predictions.
