MAY 2025 at the SALON

Vagabond in Red

In late 2020, in a barely post-pandemic world, Tom Lonero decided to pick up the helm of documentary filmmaker, a passion he had walked away from two decades earlier.

With no outside funds, the native Pittsburgher committed himself to building a series of films he titled Vagabond in Red, with the premise of solo discovery and redemption--the “in Red” suggesting a debt to society.

As a filmmaker, Tom often exposes his own shortcomings and past experience with addiction and trauma. Doing so helps pull an audience into a world that exposes all of our shortcomings as well as our triumphs and shared connections to people and a planet now struggling with the weight of humankind.

Tom will present the 6th episode in the series, "Iquitos, Peru", the culmination of a journey throughout the country that ends in the Amazonian jungle. It touches on humanity's darkness that can strike anyone, but also exposes the light we might in the most unlikely of places.

"Each step of the way seems to bring a teacher, a lesson and a conclusion," is how one fellow filmmaker described the Iquitos episode.  Come join Tom to watch and discuss this fascinating take on the travel documentary.
