Born in Homestead in 1911, Maxine Sullivan became one of the
foremost women in jazz in the Thirties and Forties. This month, Greta Schiller brings Maxine Sullivan: Love to Be In Love, her engrossing hour-long portrait of the now nearly-forgotten singer who
first rose to stardom on a most unlikely vehicle: a Scottish
ballad!
Greta Schiller is the 2014 Filmmaker in Residence at Robert Morris University. Greta and Andrea Weiss formed Jezebel Productions in 1984, and produced over a dozen major documentaries, including Before Stonewall, Paris Was a Woman, and most recently No Dinosaurs in Heaven, about the resistance to teaching evolution in science classes.
